As one of our Mortgage Underwriters you will review personal documentation, valuation reports and other system generated tasks to support mortgage applications within the standard risk mandate. You'll make sound decisions by gathering and analysing relevant information and ensuring all documentation required is received and satisfactory to progress the case to offer.
As one of our Senior Underwriters you will have the responsibility of assessing our high risk applications, making decisions based on case profiles and risk, and using your judgement to build a case to step outside of criteria where appropriate.
All roles will require high levels of customer service and sound judgement making skills.
The key skills we are looking for:
- Previous mortgage underwriting experience within a regulated environment (not essential for a Document Underwriter but a background in mortgages would be helpful)
- Experience of producing work to a high level of accuracy
- Self-motivation with the ability to prioritise own daily and weekly caseload
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to build relationships with internal stakeholders, solicitors, valuers and other third parties
- Evidence of strong analytical skills and experience of using data to support sound decision making in order to provide good customer outcomes
- Experience of underwriting outside of lending criteria (for a Senior Underwriter)
Why is Leeds Building Society a great place to work?
We're a mutual not a bank, which means we're owned by our members and are run exclusively in their best interests. In fact, our business is built on the idea of people helping people, whether that's saving for the future or buying their own home.
We're proud to be the first financial services organisation to be awarded Leaders in Diversity. We don't believe in a ‘one size fits all' approach when it comes to working here so we provide a flexible inclusive working environment that suits all colleagues. We're a 2019 Sunday Times Best Company to work for, which reflects our commitment to support our colleagues with the environment, tools and training they need to be able to excel in their careers.
We're committed to doing what's right for our members, colleagues and communities. We were the first national high-street financial institution to be awarded the Fair Tax Mark, we buy 100% renewable electricity for all our sites and have a charity partnership with Dementia UK. In addition every colleague has 14 hours volunteering each year. Our culture and colleagues are at the heart of everything we do.
