How you'll help us live our purpose

We've been helping our members save for their future and buy a home of their own since 1875. By joining us, you'll play a big role in helping us to put home ownership within reach of more people, generation after generation.

It's a purpose that drives everything we do and one we're proud. As a Senior Risk & Control Lead, you will play pivotal role for Business Readiness on our Core Banking Transformation programme.   The role is offered on a 12 month fixed term contract basis.

How you'll make a difference:

As we move into the next phase of our Core Transformation programme, you'll play a leading role in shaping and coordinating a first-line, enterprise-wide view of the risk and control environment. You'll sit within Central Business Readiness and provide first-line risk and control leadership - setting standards, driving consistent adoption, and offering constructive challenge, so senior leaders can make confident, well-evidenced go / no-go decisions and implement safely.

You'll also use your extensive knowledge of regulatory, operational and financial risk to work in partnership and support first line teams in designing and evidencing robust controls and ensuring regulatory compliance in newly designed business processes.

You'll play a critical role in our once in a generation investment in technology - bringing clarity, pace and discipline to readiness decisions and the evidence that underpins them.

What will you bring to the role?

  • Strong understanding of first-line operational risk and control frameworks, with the ability to set standards and drive consistent adoption.
  • Significant change experience supporting business readiness assessments, including defining minimum evidence sets, outlining decision governance and escalation routes.
  • Proven ability to translate programme change (TOM, systems, data, manual workarounds) into clear control impacts, material risks, mitigations and decision points, and to align senior stakeholders on required outcomes.
  • Confidence operating within senior governance forums: producing decision-grade packs, facilitating risk discussions, and driving explicit SMF risk acceptance.
  • Comfortable working at pace with ambiguity—prioritising material risks and focusing effort where it matters most.
  • Strong stakeholder leadership and deep experience operating in a financial services regulatory environment, including financial, Consumer Duty and conduct risk considerations.

And in return, you'll get the best from us:

  •  An annual colleague bonus of up to 15%
  • Hybrid working with 60% of your time at home
  • Matched pension contributions of up to 10%
  • 30 days holiday, plus bank holidays and holiday purchase scheme of up to 5 days each year
  • Colleague Mortgage and Saver products
  • Electric vehicle scheme
  • 2 days' volunteering per year

We'll give you a place to belong with the support to learn, develop and shape a meaningful career.

Why choose us?

Our business is centred around our people. Our colleagues are at the heart of everything we do, as shown by our Inclusive Employers Gold accreditation in 2023 and 2025. We're committed to equal opportunities regardless of race, colour, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability or gender identity.

You'll be joining a truly purpose-focused culture which helped us win the Leading with Purpose award at the 2023 Business Culture Awards. This recognises how we've embedded our purpose with our colleagues, and the actions we've taken to put home ownership within reach of more people, generation after generation.
