We have a commitment to Fair Reward, which helps us to determine the right and fair salary level for your role by benchmarking every job role with the external market. We use a leading advisory, broking and solutions company which draws information from other financial services organisations. We review salaries annually, taking into account the benchmarking data and in the context of the economic climate, other pay settlements and affordability.
Our Colleague Corporate Bonus Scheme is linked to the achievement of our business objectives, so everyone has the opportunity to share financially in our success. We recognise this with an annual discretionary colleague bonus scheme, with awards based on how we have performed against our objectives and your personal performance. A great way to play a part in and share our success!
We pay car allowances to eligible colleagues, where appropriate for their role. The allowance contributes to car expenses, such as insurance.
To support you in your current role and to develop you for future opportunities, we offer a wide range of options from formal learning right through to on-the-job experiences.
We’ll help you achieve your professional qualifications, relevant to your role, by reimbursing the costs of professional subscription fees to support you whilst you’re studying.
If we need you to have membership of a professional body to do your job, we’ll help with this by paying your subscription fee.
We will support you to be the best you can be, in your role and future roles, by helping you take control of your career development.
We are committed to giving you access to a wide range of development activities through ProjectMe, which you can complete at your own pace – but who knows, you may get the learning bug and want to do more! We will be here to help you all the way.
We care about your health and wellbeing, so we provide access to a cash health plan which provides you with cash-back for those everyday health care costs such as dental and optical costs, physiotherapy and acupuncture. For an additional fee you can also choose to increase your personal cover or add your family, so they can benefit too.
We can help you get the treatment you need, with access to a Private Medical Insurance scheme.
We provide cover under the scheme for many colleagues, subject to job band and length of service, but every year everyone can opt to join the Scheme, if you’re not already in it. For an additional fee, you can add also your partner and children too.
Sometimes we can face difficult situations in life and need a bit of extra help and support. At times like this, talking about it to someone who is qualified to help can make a real difference. Our Colleague Assistance Programme provides just that – a 24/7 confidential counselling, information, health and wellbeing service.
For the ardent gym bunny, or anyone who wants to get fit and improve their general well-being, our gym discounts give you a leg up to do so! You can access a special discounted rate for gym access in Leeds and Newcastle East. You can also access gym discounts through ‘Health Shield Perks’, offered with your cash health plan.
Our holidays are really important to all of us and support our wellbeing, whether it’s time to relax and rewind, or do something exciting, our generous annual leave entitlement helps you achieve a positive and healthy work-life balance. In addition to your annual holiday your entitlement will also increase with service.
You can choose to increase your annual leave entitlement with the chance to buy up to an additional 5 days holiday each year.
We’re passionate about supporting the communities that we live and work in and believe our Volunteering gives you the chance to give something back. We offer you up to 7 paid hours a year, to volunteer with a local charity or community group, for example.
In addition, colleagues can claim an extra 7 hours volunteering specifically to support Parkrun or Samaritans, our community and charity partners.
We are committed to providing equality of opportunity for all our colleagues and developing working practices and policies that support work-life balance. Our Flexible Working policy provides the basis for helping to achieve this for everyone.
Sometimes we need to take some time out, just to focus on being parents. We support you to do this, by offering you the chance to apply for parental leave for a period of up to 18 weeks unpaid, to give you the time you need with your children.
We’re keen to help our new mums and dads enjoy some time with their new bundles of joy by offering enhanced maternity, paternity and adoption leave. Don’t forget, you can opt to spread the joy between you and choose shared parental leave.
We help you to insure and protect yourself with discounts offered on a range of insurance and protection products, including home insurance.
Supporting you with a healthy commute, whether you are a budding cyclist, or just want to enjoy commuting to work on your bike, the CycleFlex Scheme enables you to receive a loan of a cycle and cycle safety equipment. The scheme is a salary sacrifice arrangement, so there’s a saving of tax and National Insurance on the value sacrificed to pay the loan.
Buying your own home is probably the most special, important and biggest purchase of your life. We can help you do this, with a special colleague concessionary interest rate. We also help you to save further, by paying house buying costs, such as administration fees, arrangement fees and standard in-house legal fees.
We can help you save money on your daily commute. We access lower fares for you, through corporate rates and discounts. You can buy your discounted annual travel pass via an interest free loan and pay for this monthly straight from your salary, spreading the cost conveniently over the year.
If you work in a branch, we provide you with a smart, professional uniform where you can choose between a number of options to suit your style.
A colleague mobile app that you can download to your phone, that allows you to network & socialise with your colleagues, sharing great stories and news, at any time from your pocket.
We’ll help you to get to know and make friends with your colleagues through the following events:
- Christmas party - A fantastic opportunity to meet colleagues from different business areas, say ‘Cheers’ and celebrate the festivities in style.
- Team social events - To support you in building strong working relationships and getting to know your team better.
- Charity fundraising – Our national charity partner is Samaritans and over the next two years we aim to raise £250,000. Our Matched Funding scheme matches a percentage of the money colleagues raise when they take part in sponsored fundraising activities.
We really value your contribution and like to recognise your achievements and dedication. We have a number of schemes and awards in place to recognise where you have done something ‘over and above’, been superb or lived our Values. Our Excellence in Action scheme gives monthly and annual awards and we hold a recognition event. You can be a ‘Star’ in customers’ eyes, through our ‘You’re Superb’ programme and there’s lots of other ways that we like to say thank you for a job well done.
We value loyalty and service and like to show our appreciation with special long service awards.
Why not Recommend a Friend to the Society? For every successful introduction you make to the Society, we'll thank you with £500.
myGiving enables you to donate tax free, to the charities you care about, direct from your salary.
We help you to save for your retirement, by offering a pension scheme which all colleagues can join. Your contributions can be made under a salary sacrifice arrangement so you can save tax and National Insurance on the amount you contribute. When you save for your future, we help too, contributing a % of your salary, depending on your age.
You can boost your pension contributions by exchanging all, or part, of your bonus payment for an employer’s pension contribution.
We offer you peace of mind should the worst happen. All colleagues benefit from life cover of four times your basic salary, to help and protect your loved ones.
