• Our people

We don’t just think Leeds Building Society is a great place to work – we know it! Our ‘world-class’ levels of engagement tell us colleagues love working here.

    Work life balance

Our approach to flexible working gives colleagues a healthy balance between professional and personal ambitions. We understand the importance of inclusive working and family friendly arrangements, that suit colleagues throughout their careers. We believe this makes a positive difference to colleague wellbeing while also helping us meet our members’ needs.

Flexible working can be a permanent, temporary or flexible arrangement. It can include part time hours, job share, home working, compressed hours, career breaks, sabbaticals and more.

For most of our roles we offer hybrid working arrangements with eight days per month (or 40%) based at our new Leeds city centre office.

If you would like to discuss flexible working arrangements please contact us at careers@leedsbuildingsociety.co.uk

    Inclusion and diversity

It’s our colleagues that make Leeds Building Society a great place to work. This is why we’re so focused on helping you to be at your best to maximise your true potential. In 2022 we launched Being You: Transforming us, our inclusion and diversity strategy that will help us remain a safe and open Society for everyone. Our ambition is simply to make sure every colleague feels valued and included for who they are and the unique perspectives they bring.

    Supporting your wellbeing

We’re dedicated to supporting your positive wellbeing and we have various schemes in place. Our internal Wellbeing Hub is a valuable source of support materials, contacts and communities, and includes information to support your emotional, physical, social and financial wellbeing. We have a variety of wellbeing benefits, such as a 24-hour assistance programme, trained Mental Health First Aiders and Menopause Champions.

    Talent development programmes

We’re committed to providing personalised learning opportunities that are available to all colleagues, no matter what career stage they’re at. Our Learning and Development Team develops and delivers inspiring on-demand learning solutions, and we offer internal secondments, mentoring and coaching opportunities. We also partner with local and nationally recognised organisations and professional bodies, to provide access to formal qualifications and accreditations.

Supporting charities and our local communities

We’re passionate about supporting our communities and looking after the planet. Every colleague is entitled to 14 paid hours a year to volunteer with a local charity, community group or fundraise for our chosen charity, Dementia UK.

Our colleagues and members have helped raise over £500,000 for Dementia UK and over £100,000 to directly support people affected by the crisis in Ukraine. We’ve also converted the space above our Peterborough branch into safe accommodation for those fleeing the conflict.

In 2022, colleagues were also able to pitch for a share of £250,000 to donate to a charity close to their heart.

  • Our purpose

These shape the way we work together at the society and our colleagues are proud to demonstrate them in everything they do, to help us work together in a like-minded culture and achieve our Purpose.

    Our purpose

We’ve helped people to save and own their homes since 1875, but we know the second of these is becoming increasingly difficult for people. That’s why our purpose is to put home ownership within reach of more people, generation after generation.

    Our strategic drivers

Our strategic drivers are the critical things we must do over the next three to five years to deliver our purpose. Together they’ll help us to put home ownership within reach of more people.

    • More responsive model
    • Close the gap innovation
    • Step-up savings

    Our behaviours

Our behaviours set out how we need everyone to operate to deliver our purpose and strategy. They help us to be the best Society we can be, and they’re the same for every colleague.

    • I am curious
